Introduction
Arsenic in drinking water and food is a major health issue, affecting millions of people in many parts of the world. In recent years serious cases of arsenic exposure through different environmental matrices have been reported from, for example, Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Taiwan, Turkey, West Bengal (India), Mexico, UK, USA, Pakistan, Vietnam as well as other regions in the world. Arsenic can cause a number of carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic adverse effects on human health and therefore human exposure to arsenic should be avoided. International Congress on Arsenic in the Environment organized biannually is a focal point for showcasing research and developments on a range of topics related to arsenic in the environment. Since 2006, six events of the International Congress Series have been held: Mexico 2006, Spain 2008, Taiwan 2010, Australia 2012, Argentina 2014, Sweden 2016 and P.R. China 2018.
We communicated earlier that we were aiming for a hybrid conference format. Nevertheless, considering the travel restrictions, we have decided to organize a full digital conference from 7th till the 9th of June. You can find the program on this website. We have contracted a professional team, BPR Visie, to take care of the technical aspects of the conference.
The â8th International Congress on Arsenic in the Environment (As2021)â has one main theme: Bridging Science to Practice for Sustainable Development. This includes five sub-themes:
- Arsenic in Natural Soil and Water Systems
- Arsenic in Agriculture and Food Production
- Health Impacts of Arsenic
- Technologies for Arsenic Removal from Water
- Sustainable Mitigation and Management for Sustainable Development
For each theme the latest insights will be presented by over 140 speakers in four parallel sub-sessions. In addition, there will be two panel discussion on: 1) Bridging arsenic science to practiceâ and 2) recent advances in arsenic research: distribution in the environment. Health impacts and technologies for remediationâ .
At this stage we kindly ask you to register for the conference as soon as possible.
After registration you will receive further information about the conference format and further instructions finding your way on the digital conference platform.
